Amy Vanderbilt's Complete Book of Etiquette; Part 5, Correspondence; "Thank-You Notes for Entertainment"

Dear dear
Mrs. Fielding Mason, Mrs. Goodrich,
However anyone
Thanks you,
A penny of objection,
Is courteous.
The same happy times,
Printed especially formally,
Bother.
Here, technically,
The same people arrange longer trouble.
Virtually every entertainment parenthetically expresses
Such sensitive things.
Of course,
brief words
disappear
As the little party,
Often gone,
Encloses.
Big cities,
Irritating telephone calls. . . .
Dear Mrs. Goodrich,
Dear Mrs. Fielding Mason,
a host departs,
these intimacies
years apart.
